Who is Deb?
I’m Debbie Jacoby (the one being dipped by love of my life, Darryl). Longtime crafter, baker, and all-round creative person.
For as long as I’ve been crafting, folks have said I should sell my creations. So finally, I’m dipping my toes in.
While I figure out what kind of small business I want to be, I figured a website, logo, and some business cards would be a good start - so here we are…
Who is that funky CAT?
That funky cat is Scottie and he is quite an amazing kitty.
Scottie was born on the streets of Baltimore. We think sometime between being born and his eyes opening, he got an upper respiratory infection that prevented his eyes from fully developing. The white you see is the extra eyelid that all kitties have called the nictitating membrane.
For a while, Scottie found food and shelter under someone’s porch, but eventually ended up at a kill shelter and was on death row until Moira at Small Miracles stepped in.
In the meantime, the Jacoby family had been making regular visits to Small Miracles to get their “kitty fix” after having lost their cat, Maggie, to old age. One last-minute visit at the end of the day, we learned about the “special needs” room - where kittens too young to be adopted hung out with recent surgery patients and special-needs cats.
We were told about Scottie - that he was blind but would venture out to play with the kittens - but we probably wouldn’t see him, But he found us - almost immediately.
While playing with several kittens with a string toy, this tuxedo long hair cat with a white bowtie moustache comes walking right up in between two kittens both vying for that string - and he started to play…
So we played… and moved to another group of kittens… and he followed.
I picked him up - and he flopped over, head on my shoulder, purring away.
I gave him to my daughter - and he flopped over on her shoulder, purring away - and licking her ear.
The final test - my son… who at that time, most cats scrambled to get away from because he couldn’t get his arms around them properly. Again, Scottie just stayed relaxed - flopped over, purring away.
And the rest is history!
UPDATE: We lost our Scottie Boy on April 17, 2025. He had just turned 17. We are so glad he chose us as his family and I can’t imagine a better way to honor his legacy than having him be our logo.
